Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how FourDinks ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the FourDinks mobile application (the "App"). FourDinks is a friend-first scheduling tool for pickleball players.

We built FourDinks to be a small, private utility — not an advertising or social media product. We collect the minimum information needed to make the app work and we don't sell or trade your data.

1. Information We Collect

a) Information you provide

• Display name — the name your friends see in the app.
• Phone number — used as your account identifier and to let friends find you in the app via their contacts. Stored as a digits-only E.164 number.
• Email address — required only if you sign in with email or Sign in with Apple. Used to send one-time verification codes.
• DUPR rating (optional) — if you provide it, displayed on your profile and on availability slots you post so friends can see your skill level.
• Game preferences (optional) — e.g. whether you usually play singles, doubles, or open play.
• Availability and match data — when you post a time window ("I'm free Thursday 7-9pm"), invite friends, accept invites, or play matches, we store those records so the app can show them to you and your friends.

b) Information collected automatically

• Push notification token — when you grant notification permission, we store the device-specific Expo push token so we can send you invitations and match confirmations.
• Sign-in metadata — when you log in, the authentication provider (Supabase) records timestamps and IP address as part of standard sign-in security.

c) Information from your device (only with your permission)

• Contacts — if you grant contacts permission, the App reads phone numbers from your address book to check which of your contacts are already on FourDinks. Phone numbers are sent to our server for the lookup but are not stored against your account, and we do not retain a copy of your contact list.

We do not collect: location data (GPS), photos, microphone audio, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or any behavioral analytics beyond crash reports.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

• Create and maintain your FourDinks account
• Show you which of your friends are free to play
• Deliver targeted game invitations and match confirmations
• Match you against friends already on the app via phone numbers
• Send transactional emails (sign-in codes, account notifications)
• Improve the App by debugging crashes or correctness issues

We do not use your information for:

• Advertising — FourDinks has no ads
• Sale to data brokers — your data is not for sale
• Building profiles for sale, lookalike audiences, or targeting
• Training third-party AI/ML models

3. How We Share Information

We share information only as needed to operate the App. We work with the following service providers ("subprocessors"):

We do not share your data with advertisers, marketers, or data brokers. We do not embed third-party trackers or SDKs that collect data for purposes unrelated to operating the App.

We may disclose information if required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the safety or rights of FourDinks, our users, or the public.

4. Friends and Visibility

FourDinks is friend-based. Information is visible according to these rules:

• Open availability slots — visible to friends you have accepted connections with.
• Targeted invitations — visible to the specific friends you pick when posting.
• Matches — visible to the players in the match.
• Profile (name, optional DUPR rating) — visible to friends and to anyone you've sent a friend request to.
• Phone number — never displayed in the app. Used only as a lookup key for friend discovery.

Row-level security on the database enforces these visibility rules — friends-only data is not accessible to non-friends.

5. Data Retention

• Account data — kept until you delete your account.
• Availability slots — kept indefinitely as part of your posting history, even after they expire.
• Matches — kept indefinitely as part of your play history.
• Sign-in logs — retained by Supabase per their standard retention policy (typically 7-30 days).

When you delete your account, we remove your profile, phone number, availability slots, and match history. Some derived records (e.g. friendships referencing your user id) are anonymized rather than deleted to preserve the integrity of your friends' records.

6. Your Rights

You can:

• Access the data we hold by emailing us
• Correct your profile in-app via Edit Profile
• Delete your account by emailing us (in-app deletion is coming in a future update)
• Revoke contacts or notification permissions in iOS Settings → FourDinks at any time

Residents of the EU, UK, and California have additional rights under their respective privacy laws (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA). To exercise those rights, email privacy@fourdinks.app.

7. Children

FourDinks is not intended for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please email us and we'll delete it promptly.

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), encryption at rest (Postgres), row-level security policies on every table, and least-privilege access controls on our backend. No system is perfectly secure, so we encourage you to use a strong sign-in method (Sign in with Apple is the strongest option) and to keep your device locked.

9. International Data Transfers

FourDinks operates on infrastructure hosted in the United States (Supabase, US-West region). If you use the App from outside the US, your data will be transferred to the US for processing. Where required by law (e.g. for EU users under GDPR), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses with our subprocessors.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you in the App and update the "Last updated" date at the top. The current version is always available at fourdinks.app/privacy.
